FEATURED WORK

Artist’s Statement

I make oil paintings that tell stories of memory and relationships to make sense of the connections between people, places and moments, and the stories that tie us together.

Memories come back to me like photographs or scenes in movies. Focusing my artwork on these living experiences helps me to reconcile with the bittersweet-ness that comes with knowing that these things no longer exist in the real world.

Though my paintings reference the past because I am exploring memory, they do not yearn for the past, but learn from it. In my head, and in my paintings, memories and time are alive like the river in Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha: “This water ran and ran, incessantly it ran, and was nevertheless always there, was always at all times the same and yet new in every moment!”
